Who is Ed Riley


Ed Riley formed Max Sam in 1996 to help clients grow their business in the infrastructure sector.

Prior to this, Ed completed a 15 year Sales, Marketing and General Management career with a US multi-national manufacturer, responsible for market growth in construction markets in Australia and Asia.

Ed is passionate about strategy, customer focus, leadership and the people piece in Infrastructure.
Assignments and clients over the last 20 years have enabled Ed to participate as part of the change on projects, programs and with the now new generation of leaders.

Ed is recognized for his extensive knowledge, his candor, his independence and his investment in individuals in the infrastructure space.

Who is Randal Tame?

Few consultants involved in change leadership have Randal’s practical and academic expertise in strategy, leadership, and persuasion. Even fewer combine Randal’s deep understanding of group and individual responses to change. For thirty years Randal has consulted to industry on strategy, leadership, change, and persuasion, and he teaches these topics at MGSM, Australia’s top business school. Randal is also currently conducting research in leadership and high performance through the University of Queensland with Laureate Professor Alex Haslam. Who is David Shortland?

David is a governance & communication specialist and a strategy & risk adviser. He is the principal of a Sydney based consultancy that supports and gives counsel to leading directors and executives in a number of sectors. He is a Guest Lecturer at the University of Sydney Business School, and an AICD facilitator in Strategy, Risk and Governance. He is currently a NED of the Heart Foundation (NSW) and ChildFund Australia. David was a contributor to AICD’s Good Governance Principles and Guidance for Not-For-Profit Organisations.

Prior to consulting, David had executive, director and advisory roles in strategy, corporate affairs, capital markets and law. He began his career working with a Supreme Court Justice in SA before moving to a law firm in London, then joining Allens in Sydney. David also held a number of roles at the ASX in strategy, as a legal and regulatory counsel and as head of corporate affairs.

David and Ed have worked together providing Strategy and bids advice to infrastructure businesses securing projects with clients such as RMS.


Who is Alex Spillett?

Alex Spillett has been leading and managing businesses for over 20 years. He has developed and shaped business strategies for organisations across many industry sectors and for a diverse range of organisations including BHP, Joy Global, ABB, Brambles, BIS Industries and Industrial Galvanizers. He has also worked with SME’s and held Board positions for Industry Associations. Alex has delivered results in General Management and Business Development by maintaining a focus on customer feedback, then linking it to the development of a strategic direction and strong brand. Alex has collaborated with Ed Riley to develop a strategic plan for Industrial Galvanisers, and to create a Leadership program for the Illawarra Region.

Who is Wayne Pearce?

Wayne Pearce is a former international Rugby League player, captain and coach who has established an outstanding post footy career over the past 15 years as a corporate speaker and facilitator.

He works across many industry sectors and his clients include Caltex, John Holland, Probuild, Downer EDI, Harvey Norman, Optus, CSR, Bunnings, Commonwealth Bank, ANSTO, NSW Police Force and NSW Department of Education. Wayne has worked with Ed Riley to deliver leadership programs for Futurenet and Hunternet.

He has a deep understanding of the psychology of motivation and his primary focus is developing and delivering programs that engage employees in a manner that activates and sustains discretionary effort.
